People quote The Gita (refer link) and talk about why and how four levels of caste system evolved in Sanatana Dharma.

In modern day context, we have started attributing the caste system as per the birth of the individual so much so that it has creeped into the daily lives from marriages to admission forms in educational institutions, caste of the individual is enquired.

When and why did this misrepresentation begin?

How do we go back to the actual teachings of Bhagwan Shri Krishna regarding caste system?

No, caste or Varan system is no longer relevant. Birth based Varan system was prevalent at least during Mahabharata time. Despite Karan being one of the best archer and warrior, never accepted as Kshetrya. Ekalvya was denied education because he was tribal boy.

Some people talk of going back profession based Varan system. Why? Society has evolved so much that 4 classification of profession are utterly insufficient.

Best is to work for casteless varanless society.

Caste System is very wrong. But it wasn't there always. Varna system had 4 varnas. Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishia and Shudra. Brahman were those who had Knowledge. Kshatriya were who had the duty to protect the women and children and everyone else. Vaishia were traders and Shudra were those who were given job of cleaning. It did not matter what family one was born in. Their Varna was decided upon their skills. Which is why Ved Vyas who was a Shudra went on to become an excellent Rishi. Not only a rishi but a Maharishi. And Vishwamitra who born in a Kshatriya Family went on to become a Maharashi too. Over the time the system got messed up as in Mahabharata we see Karna was not allowed to study under Acharya Dhrone because he was from a Shudra Family.

Such is the injustice of caste system. Although capable, many are left behind. And now because of Reservations, many incapable are getting opportunity when those who deserve it, are left behind.
