I would also add beginning with "Hindu Culture" by Swami Tejomayananda, then with "All about Hinduism" by Sri Swami Sivananda (available for free to read on archive.org), and then "The Vedas" by Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati.

I would also read Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Address speech to American audiences in September 1893. If you like that then read many of his writings on Hinduism. It will blow you away- in a great way.

    Namaskar.

Best would be to get a book recently written in last 10 to 15 yrs by a practicing Hindu from a Sampraday, instead from a Academic with no skin in the Dharma.

Hindu Culture an Introduction by Swami Tejomayanada is will be good start. https://www.chinmayapublications.com/hindu-culture-an-introduction

Other "Am I A Hindu" is a primer about the Hindu religion, published in 1992, by Ed Viswanathan. It is in Dialogue/Q&A format.

The hindu View of life by Dr. S Radhakrishnan Ji can also be something you can consider.
