Learning Sanskrit through self study Non-Fiction Books

Pranaam,

I wish to start learning Sanskrit again and make my time useful. I studied it in my primary school but it was too elementary. Can anyone please suggest where should I begin from or what books should I refer to?

My aim is to be able to read any old scripture in its original form... (provided it's in vocal Sanskrit).

Thanks in advance.

Best way to learn Sanskrit if you have become distanced from Devanagari script is to use the transliterated shlokas at Sanskrit documents site and upgrade the vocab using spoken Sanskrit. Acquire the taste and run along with it.
