Questions/ answer from a tweet

Aatma to na Marti h na paida hoti hai

Fir ye jo Itni Jada population increase horahi hai har saal uske leye Aatma kaha se supply horahi hai?

Not only human but every living being has a soul and hence there is endless supply/inventory of souls. A few billion increase in human souls is immaterial

As they say in Jain philosophy - aatma is common for humans, plants & animals. Aatma with good deeds born as human. Humans with bad deeds become animals etc. So, no, aatmas in absolute terms is not increasing.

Ishavasya Upanishad gives you the answer for this via the shloka:

Mathematically expressed, this would be stated as Infinity minus Infinity equals Infinity.

At a more realisable level, let's understand this. The very confusion you have sprouts from a narrow worldview: number of Atman (soul) = number of life on planet Earth. Though no one can say for sure, but apparently there may be a view that the number has increased over time. True, if we consider any of the great extinction level events from the past, the number indeed dwindled down to near zero, and sprang forth again.

But this thought process, along with an acceptance of metaphysical ideas, contains several flaws:

    1. Inanimate objects contain soul or not?

    2. Can souls freed during extinction level event wait in a limbo, and come back? The limbo can also be Yamaloka, since each soul will spend time there to atone for the bad karma / sin committed by their previous bodies.

    3. Only Earth has life, and hence soul? The universe is bigger that a human mind can ever imagine. There can be billions and billions and billions of planets out there teeming with life.

So, overall the equation is not disbalanced - it can never be.

Additionally, you got to remember the Hindu cosmogony has layers of hidden complexity within it. The whole of creation gets dissolved and then again attains form after each Kalpa (day of Brahma). Brihadaranyak Upanishad tells you that at the start of the creation in the next kalpa, there are 2 entities in the proto-universe (I am not using the word multiverse here for simplicity - but it is indeed a multiverse) : Brahma and Death. Where does Death come from? It comes from the deaths of the previous dissolution of creation. All the souls waiting - waiting to dawn new clothes, to ride new vehicles. These dual-inifinitude expand into the creation... in no time... when They wish to start the day!

After a hundred of Brahma's year, the Brahma perishes. Cosmos comes to inexistence. Only to exist again. But that guhya knowledge is for another day! :)

          Of course.

Atman kahan se supply hote hai? Brahma se. Paramatma se.

Great question. This question should be about Jivatma, which circulates.  If Conciousness (Brahman) is Vyapak- everywhere - omnipresent, and infinite. Then Jivatma exists within Conciousness, going from one body to next- according to its karmas, habits, etc.

The Real I which is the Absolute Reality never came or went . Where it will come from? Where It will go to?

The bodies come from recycled matter and keep on coming and going. The Locus of the Absolute Reality reflected in the Mind-Body Pot is known as the JeevAtman and it is subject to cycle of rebirth and also degradation and upgradation in the scheme of things.

Many people get reborn as animals Many Animals get reborn as People. The set of living beings is countably infinite.
