He was born with a predetermined lifespan of 8 years.

This was extended to 16 years.

And then this was extended to 32 years.

There were 2 divine interventions that granted these 2 extensions.

Who were they? What happened?

So Agastya Rishi gave a boon to his mother to extend his lifespan from 8 years to 16 years.

Later, in Badrinath (I think!), when he met Krishna Dwaipayana Veda Vyasa, he was happy with his Shankara Bhasya interpretations of the Upanishads and various Sutras, and gave a boon to extend his lifespan from 16 years to 32 years.
